Even more gameplay!

Later in the game, Ireland won a line out deep inside Italy's half.

The bounce was favourable, and left Ireland in possession. They now have 3 attacking flicks.

As they are already in possession, the first 2 flicks can be any distance, only the third flick must remain within 2 inches of the ball.

After their attacking flicks, the opposition have 3 block flicks.

From this position it was decided to attempt a charge through the blocking players.

Remember the first 2 flicks can be any distance, provided you were in possession at the start of the attack.

Now in great position to attempt a try!

Try successful!

On this occasion the conversion was also successful.
As a matter of interest, this game was played 2 days before the Ireland Italy game, and Italy won 13 points to 10!!

The line out.

Line out taken in the usual way, the difference being the ball does not have to make contact with a player.If the ball bounces and fails to hit a figure, then the side taking the throw may attempt possession first.

In this instance the ball bounced and made contact with the team not throwing in, resulting in a dangerous position.

A try should have been scored from this, but an over enthusiastic charge put the ball over the dead ball line.

More gameplay!

We start with a scrum, Ireland having the put in.

The next frame shows the result of the play with the scrummer removed.

Ireland now in possession, have 3 attacking flicks, followed by 3 defending flicks.

2 attacking flicks produced this situation, therefore a drop goal attempt was decided upon.

 The attempt struck the right hand post, sending the ball over the touch line resulting in a line out!

Kick off!

This shows the kick off, the live full back is used to kick the ball over the 10 metre line and that counts as one flick. One of the forwards then attempts to take possession which would be flick two. Unfortunately in this clip the figure was unsuccessful and the attempt went over to the opposition, but they too missed so the side kicking off were able to make another attempt which was successful, the second flick could then be any distance, and the third flick must make contact and remain within two inches of the ball to be in possession. The opposition then have three block flicks and thus the game progresses.

New Year.

Happy new year to any viewers of this blog!!
To start off the year I decided on a game of rugby trying out my re-written rules. So having had the table set up since 21st of December, I decided on a game between England and the All Blacks.

       I prefer to use the original set-up of the game, but any formation would work. The rules allowed a more open game, with threats coming thick and fast on both sides, but an over enthusiastic block by New Zealand resulted in a penalty to England on the 10 metre line, which was successful. The re-start was true All Blacks style, with a good run down the right hand side of the pitch, culminating in a try in the right hand corner. Despite the acute angle, the conversion attempt was successful giving a half-time score of : England 3 All Blacks 7.
       The second half got off to a good start for England with a drop goal attempt in front of the posts and from the 10 metre line, unfortunately the kick was wide and the re-start saw a very threatening run by New Zealand, that should have been a try, but the attempt was just a bit too strong resulting in a knock-on! Most of the rest of the second half was uneventful, until a charge through attempt by England following a scrum, resulted in a try by the left hand post. The conversion attempt was successful, and there was only 3 minutes left on the clock. Another good run by New Zealand nearly clinched it in the last minutes, but England were able to gather and clear their line, and kick into touch thus ending the game.

To all fans of things Subbuteo and any other hands on people, a very merry yuletide to you all and lets hope that the new year see a resurgence in interest in these games as people become tired of electronic games and get back to interacting with each other!!
